Read this piece in the New York Times by writer and editor Dominique Browning (I reviewed one of her books below in the blog post below.)
For a long time, like decades, I believed men were babies who couldn't handle being alone and got remarried sooner than women. I still think, especially with the older generations, that holds true.
Just think of all the divorced couples you know. Anyone born before the early 1970s, really. Men are more likely to sprint down the aisle and remarry than women.
However, I know plenty of women my age who get a new boyfriend 10 seconds after saying good-bye to the old boyfriend. Worse, I know plenty of women who have Plan B in the works well before Plan A is finished.
I don't know if I agree with Browning's contentions that there are evolutionary underpinning's to men's and women's propensities to remarry.
I do agree with her comments that some women prefer to stay alone because it feels safer. It's like she dug into my psyche.
I will say this: I want a wife. Everyone could use a wife. Someone to cook, clean, raise our offspring, run errands, remember the sister-in-law's birthday, provide sex, boost our self-confidence with compliments.
Additionally, as if wives don't do enough, most have to work at least part-time to further support their families.
I could use a second income.
