"Happy Xmas" by John Lennon and Yoko Ono. The video is sad, the song conjures up happy feelings.
Bach's "Jesu Joy of Man's Desiring." If you don't know which arrangement to select, go with the Academy of St. Martin in-the-Fields. I learned that from a former boyfriend. I don't think this song is specifically for Christmas. However, whenever I try to learn it (it's been an ongoing effort on the piano) it's during the holidays.
"Away in a Manger (Kirkpatrick version)." First heard this at a midnight Christmas service at All Saints Episcopal Church in Salt Lake City. Loved it because I'm an alto and can't reach the notes of the more popular version.
"Do they know it's Christmas?" Band Aid.
Another depressing but catchy song. I don't know any of these artists, except Boy George who is now DJ Boy George of the Ministry of Sound, and George Michael. And Sting and Bono, who both look better with age, IMHO.
"For Unto Us a Child is Born." I've posted the MoTab version here as a nod to my LDS friends. I miss the Handel sing-along with the Utah Symphony at Abravanel Hall.
"The Christmas Song" by Nat King Cole.
The best version of this song. I'm particularly offended by the Justin Bieber verison -- not by his singing. I haven't bothered listening to it. Mostly it's that he's got one out there.
